Jayne Russell uses objects as an interface between memory and documentation of grief. With her camera she highlights the threads that bind memory to ritual, in particular relation to the On Water People of Hong Kong. Important relics of these people, in the form of hand carved statues, are captured in Russell’s photographs. Through these photographs Russell continues the weaving of time and history that convey the Confucian value of filial respect for family in life and after death.
